I am sure all of you must be curious about the sort of neighborhood we live in - Minamiazabu ( South Azabu), which is one of the districts within the larger Azabu area.
According to Wikipedia, Azabu (麻布) is known as Tokyo's most prominent upscale residential district; many artists, business people, and celebrities reside there. ( Don't worry, I didn't write this on Wikipedia...haha....) Well, to be honest, one doesn't need Wikipedia to tell you that this is $rich$ neighborhood. You just need to walk around it.
One guy has both Rolls-Royce and Bently parked in his garage. Lamborghini dealership is right here. Saw another Rolls-Royce just parked on the street. ( I mean who parks something so expensive right on the street....seriously!!!) Porsche, Alfa Romeo, Audi, Mercedes, and BMW are very common here.
The ONLY children clothing store in the neighborhood carries Armani Junior and the likes. You have to either be super loaded or "love your kids SO~~ much" to pay for a $400 ~$500 coat or a $150 pair of shose that will last you for three months! ( I mean...who does that?!?!)
Roppongi, another district within the larger Azabu area which is about 10-15 minutes walking distance from my apt. Hugo Boss, Harry Winston, Tiffany.....you name it...they are all here. Don't get me wrong, we enjoy the high-end malls a lot and go there( Roppongi Hills and Midtown) every weekend. It's just that we ended up only brought home the stuff from the food court or restaurants!!!! hahahaha.........
When we were apt hunting back in Oct 09, I recalled the realtor said that we should thank the resession otherwise we would have to settle for a 2bdr apt instead of the nice 3 bdr we live in right now. However, when looking at the people around me( how they spend their money, in particular), I wonder where has the recession gone?! I often said to my husband that we are poor people living in a rich neighborhood ^_^ .
